Marengo Creek Farms- Pumkin Patch field trip will be Weds. Oct 21th, we will meet at 9:45. Please also bring your lunch, we will be having lunch there. Cost is $7.00 per person & 2 and under free. Come join us from a morning on fun on the farm.

From Columbus Take the J.R. Allen Parkway (80W) into AL. Stay on the pkwy until you come to a light and can't go straight any more. Turn left on to hwys 280/431/80. Go to the 2nd light and turn right on to 80W. Drive 11.5 miles. Turn left on Russell County Road #33 (mile marker 203 is at this intersection). Drive 1.5 miles on #33, we are on the left. ...or...

Take the 13th Street bridge into AL. Continue straight. When you cross the over hwy 280/431, 13th Street turns into 80W. Go 11.5 miles on 80W. Turn left on Russell County Road #33 (mile marker 203 is at this intersection). Drive 1.5 miles on #33, we are on the left. ...or...

*Georgia History Adventure*
Meet early Native Americans, Hernando DeSoto, James Oglethorpe,frontiersmen, Creek Indians, Cherokee Indians, Revolutionary War soldiers, Sequoyah and an African slave. Learn about life in an 1850s town by helping out with daily chores, seeing skilled craftsmen, riding in a mule-drawn wagon, attending a one-room school house and much more. 

Date: Thursday, November 12th 2:00pm-5:00pm

Cost: $12 per students ages 6 and up (5 and under are free)$9 per adult Payment must be made before the reservation will be finalized.

This is a new special event at Westville that features a tour and historical interpreters. Regular school groups will be there in the morning, the afternoon is primarily devoted to homeschoolers. If you wish to attend, please let me know. You may send me a check (8088 Glen Valley Dr., Midland, GA 31820) or pay me at co-op or park day. The last day to make payment is Friday, October 23rd.

 


Tybee Island

An Environmental Education Field Study designed specifially for homeschoolers. Bring your family to the beach for an educational vacation at a great value. Our environmental education program teaches over 5,000 students every year. We have reserved these days in December for individual homeschool families to sign up directly with Tybee.

 

Accomodations: Our comfortable dormitories have heat, AC and bathrooms (see the website for pics). Each dorm has a separate chaperone room with private bathroom. Dorm space is very limited so you are encouraged to sign up early.  Groups of 5 or more at full price are guaranteed their own private dorm. If you have less than 5 in your family, bring along another family you are friends with and share a dorm. You will have plenty of room- the dorms are specious. There will also be limited shared dorm space for families of less than 5. Shared dorms will be partitioned so that 2 different families will share a dorm, each having their own bathroom. Another great option is to stay at a hotel, condo, house or campground on Tybee.  

 

Classes: Students will be grouped with children of similar ages. Classes are designed for ages 5-17. Adults are expected to attend classes as well and help with superivision during your entire length of stay. Younger children are welcome to attend classes, but should be under close parental supervision.

Georgia Aquarium

Homeschool Day at the Georgia Aquarium

We will have activity stations, arts-n-crafts, and gallery carts on hand for students to explore and learn about our aquatic animals and ecosystems. Activities will be age/grade appropriate.

Infantry Museum

Ft. Benning's Infantry Museum
 

We will be meeting in front of the statue at 10 am on Thursday, December 3rd. There will be a tour starting around 10:15 am which will last about an hour and a half. Then we will be having sack lunched on WW2 Street. The coordinator told us that they could open up some of the buildings for us to look in. The IMAX will be starting at 2:00 pm for those of you who will be staying. There will be some running around spaces (no real playground equipment) but plenty of open grassy areas and the weather is promising to be nice.

Georgia Aquarium - March 2nd 

Their exciting new 45-minute instructor-led programs allow for focused learning opportunities where students can expand their understanding of aquatic ecosystems. To enhance your field trip experience you are encouraged to spend the remainder of your time exploring the Georgia Aquarium after you class.  All 45-minute progams include admission to the 4D theater and a downloadable teacher's guide. Each program is $12.  2 programs are offered per grade level at 1:45 and then at 2:45. (You may choose to do 1 program or both programs).

Overnight at The Parks at Chehaw - March 26th

At night, the Parks at Chehaw come alive and it is a great place to explore.  Chehaw's education specialists will guide you through an evening filled with live animal interactions and adventure. The Friday night will include an animal presentation, games and activities, a trip to the zoo on a hay wagon and a fire-starting demonstration with storytelling. A continental breakfast will greet you Saturday morning and then you can watch the keepers "wake up" the zoo. Come and experience what a good night you can have!

 

A large building is provided for sleeping... please bring sleeping bag and pillows. 

The minimum age is 7.

Cost is $35 per person.

Medieval Times in Atlanta - April 14th

Imagine a history lesson presented by a King and his Noble Court set within the walls of an 11th century-style castle. Every detail is painstakingly recreated as your students take a personal journey to the middle ages. Experience spectacular horsemanship, amazing swordplay, medieval games of skill and an authentic jousting tournament between six brave knights of the realm. Each ticket includes a 4 course lunch.
