We have alot of great ideas for fieldtrips this year, but we need your help to make it happen. Please consider volunteering to help coordinate a trip. Think of a cool place to visit, call and set up a date, let Suzanne know the details so that it can be added to the calendar. If the trip requires an exact headcount, consider having families RSVP.

Dates and additional details will continue to be posted throughout the year.

::Field Day/Used Book Sale ::

Friday, May 16 at Camp Joy

Chattahoochee Valley Homeschoolers invites you to our annual Field Day and Used Book Sale.  It will be held on Friday, May 16 at beautiful Camp Joy outside of Hamilton, GA (just north of Columbus).  All homeschoolers are welcome to attend.  There will be a charge of $3 per family of three or more attending, $2 if only one or two of the family are attending.  There will be games, races and swimming for the children and tons of used books and materials to purchase, along with the opportunity to sell your homeschool items.

If you want to sell your books or other educational items, come between 9 and 9:30 to set them out.  The book sale will be held in the air-conditioned dining hall.  Tables will be labelled with grade levels - just place your books on the appropriate tables.  We will also have an area for miscellaneous items.  Label everything with a notecard or piece of paper taped to the front of the book or item.  List the name of the book, grade level, price and your name.  Be sure to sign in as a seller at the book sale table.  We will take your "tag" off the book/item as it sells and place it in an envelope (we provide those) along with the money paid so you will know what sold.

The book sale begins at 9:30 a.m. and ends at 1:30 p.m.  Any books, money or items not picked up by 2 p.m. will be considered donations.  Please bring only books or items that you seriously believe someone will want.  There will be a spot, probably outside, for any free items that are not in good enough shape to sell.

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU BRING PLENTY OF CHANGE AND SMALL BILLS.   We do NOT make change.  Most sellers will accept checks also.  Feel free to browse as much as you like, but do NOT take books or items away from the tables unless you plan to purchase them.

Beginning at 10 a.m.  there will be a number of games and races for the kids to participate in.  Inside there will be a few tables set up for the ever popular creativity corner.  Kids can come make whatever they can dream up using the craft supplies available.  They can also bring soccer, football, baseball stuff, etc. and start up a game if they wish.  Fishing is also allowed but do NOT take out the boats that may be there.  PARENTS, make sure your children understand not to take out the boats and not to go by the lake without you.  Their safety is in your hands!  Each parent is responsible for their own children.  Please supervise them and know where they are and what they are doing.  Neither Chattahoochee Valley Homeschoolers, Valley Rescue Mission nor any person other than yourself is responsible for any accidents or mishaps that may occur.

There will also be a limited number of spaces available outside for families to sell other things.  You must register with Deena in advance if you want to set up a table.  BareNaked Bars will be there selling their wonderful soaps, handcrocheted organic cotton washclothes and other items.

The swimming pool will be open from 12:30 - 2:45 and will be monitored by a certified life guard.

Representatives of the Valley Rescue Mission will be serving hot dogs, hamburgers, chips and drinks to raise money for the mission.   If you prefer,  you can bring a picnic lunch .  There may also be some desserts being sold.  Little room is left inside for eating so bring blankets and/or lawn chairs to use outside.

As always, we need YOU to volunteer a bit of your time during this day to make it a success.  Please consider doing a shift either signing people in and taking money at the gate, working the book sale tables, monitoring the craft tables or helping with the games and races.  To volunteer, please call or email Deena Johnston at 706-323-9584 or dsmj55@aol.com  You can also join and post your willingness to volunteer  at the Chattahoochee Valley Homeschoolers meetup site http://homeschool.meetup.com/601/  We try to keep each shift to a time period of no more than one hour.  It's only possible to do this if we have plenty of volunteers to help, so PLEASE volunteer and then show up for your job.

To get to Camp Joy follow US highway 27 to Hamilton.  Turn west on highway 116 at the red light in Hamilton (if you're coming from the south it's the first red light, if you're coming from the north it's the second).   Go one mile.  Turn left onto Valley Rescue Mission Rd (there's a road sign as well as a larger sign for Camp Joy) and go about one mile.  Turn left into the entrance to Camp Joy and follow the drive to the end.  You can also come by way of I-185 and get off at the Hamilton exit.  Head toward Hamilton and after several miles (sorry I never go that way so don't know the exact mileage) watch for Valley Rescue Mission Rd on your right.  If you pass the high school, you've gone too far.

Carpooling would be great if you can to keep down the number of cars to be parked.

Valley Rescue Mission is charging $1 for each person who wants to swim.
